Weekly Recommendation - Week #024 - Bye Bye Miss 2014

Oh 2014, what a year to be alive. Why you may ask? Well because it's the year TGOI.COM first reared it's gorgeous head. To celebrate this and that this is the final Sunday recommendation of 2014, we are re-recommending things that we deem worthy to re-recommend. Darren's up first, so take it away!

Here's my top favourites for this year. I've put considerably small amounts of effort in. I apologise to all of you but it's not a new year yet so I don't have to change anything.

Cowboy Bebop – Sunrise (Series) – Author: Darren

So, this week my pick is Cowboy Bebop. Now, if you've ever heard of anime, you've heard of Cowboy Bebop. It's lauded as a benchmark for quality by critics and consumers alike.
You probably want to know more, right? Well, I'll oblige. Cowboy Bebop is about a crew of bounty hunters aboard a ship named Bebop, struggling to make ends meet. It takes place in the year 2071, when space flight and habitation are possible thanks to hyper space gateways. A fair chunk of the action seems to take place on Mars (think today's big cities) with some pretty nifty space travel and a few jaunts to Earth.
The characters themselves and their relationships are what makes this show what it is, but in my opinion, it's main character: Spike Spiegel's arc that is the most compelling, Faye Valentine's arc is fantastic in it's own right as it offers a healthy dose of juxtaposition to Spike and Jet's stories.
If story isn't your thing, or even if it is, there's no denying that both the music and art style,as well as animation and voice acting, come together to create a truly unique experience that simultaneously entertains and tackles mature subject matter such as existentialism, the affects of the past, existential ennui and loneliness.
All in all, if you like compelling characters, science fiction, jazz, blues, deep stories and satisfying conclusions (I mean, who doesn't like a satisfying conclusion?) then this is your kind of thing. Even if, like me, you're not huge on anime. One thing I will say is that, reading reviews, Is that it's suggested to watch episode five, then one to four. I didn't and I still enjoyed it but some of you may find it slow to start.
Before you move on, I would like to say that my love for Cowboy Bebop doesn't come from nostalgia or any kind of anime bias, the first time I watched it was roughly three months ago (from time of writing) and I'd never watched an anime in my life. Yep, you read it right, no DBZ, no Bleach, no Naruto. I went in blind to anime and I loved it.

Normandy - Miracle Of Sound (Music) - Author: Darren

I think this is the second time now that I've recommended Miracle of Sound, but only because other people need to have a chance or something. This song (along with those below) is one one of my favourites, again, probably because it's Mass Effect related. It still doesn't mean the quality isn't exceptionally high. As someone who produces music as a hobby, I have to admit that this is where I aspire to be skill wise. Actually, come to think of it, better wouldn't be bad (harder, absolutely). As a person who has ears, I can also say that this is an amazing song that resonates with me on an emotional level, maybe it's the investment with Mass Effect, maybe it isn't. His music is still great though and well worth a listen, he does more than just Mass Effect, but never less than excellent. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfelfyV8LwA]

Castlevania: Symphony of The Night - Konami (Game) - Author: Darren

Castlevania: Symphony of The Night (SoTN) debuted on the PlayStation on 20th March 1997. However, since I was deeply entrenched in my mother's womb, I never had the chance to play it. That changed when it was re-released on XBLA and PSN almost ten years later. It's safe to assume that I've now played it (still not beaten it) and I found it enjoyable. It's tough as dicks. Steel dicks. Enjoyable as hell though.
The game sees you take on the role of Dracula's broody son, Alcuard (fuckin' clever shit). You take it upon yourself to storm Dracula's castle, usually a job for Belmont and Sons, Ltd. This plan goes a tad awry when Death comes and mugs you. Yep, he straight up mugs you, putting you in the classic situation of "get better weapons and shit, you faffy little cunt scrubber". Gameplay of this game is old, but good. Some things let it down just a bit. Things like Alucard's melodrama upon receiving the slightest damage and the fact that he always slashes just higher than you think. He has a sweet forward moonwalk going on though.
Visually and audibly, this game is fantastic. There's a huge variety in enemy types, sizes and palettes as well as some great effects when enemies die or take hits (shout out to Sean Poole). The soundtrack and even the effect noises are great. Most of the music in SoTN is a strange kind of eerie synth or as spine-chilling as Sub Zero.

Now that Darren's got his stuff out the way, it's time for my favourite things that I've recommended in 2014. I was going to write new stuff about them, but I feel like a) what I wrote previously does them justice and b) I'm saving my writing power for a very special piece coming in the next couple of days. Be ultra excited for that!

In the Mouth of Madness - John Carpenter (Movie) Author: Chris

Let it be known how much I love John Carpenter, and how much I have wanted to add one of his films here (god I feel like I've said this already), and now I finally have an excuse. One time, I was rather vocal about my love of John Carpenter, and a copy of In the Mouth of Madness was flung upon me. I then proceeded to watch it. I must say, I was not prepared for what this combination of moving pictures and audio had in store for me. This film is fucking weird, and I absolutely love it. I really don't want to spoil any of it, but this is a recommendation, so I do have to state something that will get your taste buds tingling. It is a horror film, the kind that goes out of its way to fuck with your mind and your perception of the film universe that you see before your retinas. An author goes missing, one that is claimed to be more successful than Steven King, in terms of his horror novels, and our protagonist, an insurance investigator, is tasked with locating him. The main catch is, his novels seem to drive some people insane. Now if that doesn't grab your attention for twisted movies, I don't know what will (well, probably the Saw franchise, but whatever.) This is John Carpenter at his best, not that he ever makes anything less then that in my mind (apart from Ghosts of Mars, that made me bored I must admit.)

Afro Samurai: Resurrection OST - The RZA (Music) Author: Chris

So we here at the TGOI offices take our music very seriously, and we love to dive into exciting new genres, but I feel rap is an area that I'm a bit iffy about. Don't get me wrong, I do like some songs, but some are just samples repeated over and over to some dodgy words. However, this soundtrack is something else. It uses a combination of hip hop rap and traditional Japanese musical instruments to make some really stunning songs. Just by writing that I realise how bizarre that sounds, but it actually works really well, and I'm flat out admitting that this album Is up there with some of my favourites of all time (once again, Talking Heads, your time will come.) You should probably watch the anime that the soundtrack accompanies first, (which I also recommend) but if you just want a unique twist on such a genre, look no further.

Max Payne 3 - Rockstar Games (Games) - Author: Chris

Let it be known (I feel like I have used that intro before) that Darren and myself adore Rockstar Games and everything they create. Now, this game had quite a lot of trailers, all of which I watched extensively, absorbing as many small details before the game came out. I wanted this game so badly it was unreal. So when I did get this game, I bought it, popped it in, and HOLY SHIT IT IS STILL ONE OF MY FAVOURITE GAMES EVER. The game looks and plays amazingly, the story is phenominal and Max Payne himself, my my, what a performance. I quote that fucking game every day, most of the time without people realising. I don't want to brag (what am I saying, of course I do) but I got stupidly good at that game, I mean like MLG levels of good. They held a tornament with about ten thousand people and I came twentieth. I BEAT A DEVELOPER AT HIS OWN GAME. THAT IS HOW GOOD I GOT AT IT. Enough bragging now, you can pick this game up for like a fiver, and I'd say that is the best thing a person can buy with a fiver. Also the soundtrack is ace. OKAY I AM DONE FOR REAL THIS TIME.

Well shit guys, that's it. That was the last Sunday recommendation of 2014. It's all rather sad isn't it? I mean think about it, this is the last Sunday of 2014, we will never experience a 2014 Sunday ever in our lives again. Isn't that insane? Well I find it insane. Thank you so much for reading our blog throughout 2014, and we most definitely look forward to continuing to recommend some top shit throughout 2015 and many years after that. It's been a blast so far and it can only get better! So for one last time this year, thanks for reading!

Weekly Recommendation - Week #023 - Merry Chris-tmas & Darren Exists Too, I Guess

So, Christmas is ahead of us and Hanukkah behind (I think). That just leaves us with one thing to do. One that matters, anyway. Darren is back from the dead and here to spread the holiday joy or something. Many people have requested the use of necromancy but Darren came back of his own volition to recommend shit to you. Well, not shit because bodily waste isn't a category for the weekly.
Let's get under-way then, it's almost 2015 and we have one last recommendation to work on (other that this) before we become completely different people.

Die Hard - John McTiernan (Film) - Author: Chris

Ahh the age old question: Is Die Hard a Christmas film? Of course it bloody is, it's set at Christmas, it has Christmas music in it and John McClane does that one thing with the "ho ho ho I have a machine gun," therefore it has to be a Christmas film, end of discussion. Oh what's that? It wasn't originally released in December? WELL NEITHER WAS IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE SO BE QUIET! Anyway, Die Hard is an absolute classic. Bruce Willis plays John McClane, a cop who gets caught up in this crazy heist and has to shoot all of the bad people and Snape because the real cops are a bit shit. It's a top film that, to be honest, I'd be surprised if you hadn't heard of it. I think everyone has heard of Die Hard, it's just one of those classics. It's tons of dumb fun, the action is over the top, and, this is a personal thing, they use a shit ton of blood squibs instead of CGI blood, which looks really dumb and amazing at the same time. Check it out if you haven't, and if you have, do it again, it is Christmas after all! YIPPEE KI YAY MOTHER FUCKER!

If It Has To Be Christmas - Simon Vilkund & Pete Gold (Music) - Author: Darren

So, we all have our opinions on the Christmas and this adequately conveys mine (Chris' too, I believe). It's from the Payday 2 Christmas Soundtrack and is the only song not really about robbery. That leaves us with a question: Why are you so talented Darren? Well, I'll tell you. It's because I relentlessly apply this attitude to myself. Also, the song's is about the Christmas season, if you care about that. Why would you? We were talking about me, after all.
On the subject of being selfish and what the song's about, it's about that too. Give it a listen and tell use what you think, if you have the capacity to process thoughts that is.
Enjoy, wankstains: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IviXt2ydOJU

Batman Arkham Origins - Warner Bros. Games Montreal (Game) - Author: Chris

"WHAT'S THIS GAME GO TO DO WITH CHRISTMAS?" You probably ask quite aggressively. Well, it's set on Christmas eve, so there you go. You then proceed to ask "BUT ARKHAM ORIGINS IS SHIT ISN'T IT?" Well, you are actually wrong there good sir. People seem to have this idea that Origins is awful, well it's actually a really bloody good game. I myself am an unbelievably massive fan of the Arkham games, and I firmly believe that this one is a solid entry. It plays exactly like the previous two, which is one of the things people think is bad about it, but hey, if it isn't broke, don't fix it, and, lets be honest, the Arkham games are far from broke. So, Origins tells an origin story of sorts, surprise surprise, as we see Batman still fighting as a vigilante, unlike Asylum and City, in which he is on good terms with the cops. Black Mask puts a bounty on Batman's head and a combination of well known villains and some really obscure ones try to claim it. Being an Arkham game, that is not at all all there is to it, but that's the basic plot in a nutshell. If you loved the previous games, you will get a massive kick out of this one, but if you are new to the series, I seriously recommend starting from Arkham Asylum, but don't let people convince you to skip Origins, it's well worth your time. Oh, and they added multi-player for some reason, which I actually really enjoyed. Go figure. OH AND AS ALWAYS THE SOUNDTRACK IS PHENOMENAL GEE I ALWAYS SAY THIS.

Well that's it, those are your Christmas recommendations. We could have made last week's recommendation the Christmas one, so you would have time to acquire these things while it wasn't last minute, but hey, the thought is there right guys? But seriously, have a lovely Christmas everyone, and thank you for sticking with us. Seriously, we're so close to hitting the six month mark it's unreal. You guys are the knees of a giant bee. Which is a bit creepy.

Weekly Recommendation - Week #022 - Chris Gets Political

"What does this title mean?" you probably didn't ask. Well I'll tell you whoever you are! It does not mean I'm running for some kind of political position (good lord, can you imagine that?), but instead, it means that a) this week's theme is political items, and b) I, Chris, am writing the whole thing! Yes, every word you see in this article was written by me! Don't believe me? Well that's fine, you are entitled to believe what you want. Except in fascism, because just don't do that. See that comment? It was relevant to the topic, and it was humorous! This is exactly what you should expect from me. I can also personally state that all the stuff recommended is really top notch. Enjoy them my pretties!

District 9 - Neill Blomkamp (Film) - Author: Chris

I must confess, I was waiting for an excuse to recommend District 9. Apart from maybe The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, this is my favourite film ever, and Darren, I do actually mean that. Let's not go off track for once! District 9 is a documentary style sci-fi film about aliens landing in Johannesburg, then being forced to live in slums and treated like lesser creatures while the government take advantage of them. Sounds awfully like the actual apartheid that happened in South Africa. In fact, if you swapped out the aliens for black people, then it would basically be a true story (minus the aliens mechs and weaponry of course). I don't think I could come up with any words that could truly describe just how much I love this film: the concept is superb, the aliens look amazing, the political themes are so important, the music is entraps you in this world so perfectly, and god damn I could watch this thing every week. I am really underselling this film, I honestly am trying not to, but I just am! Maybe you won't like it as much as I do, or maybe you will. I suppose that's why we have opinions. I suppose.

Night of 1000 Candles - The Men They Couldn't Hang (Music) - Author: Chris

Shall we continue our bonus theme of confessions? Well I'm writing so I get to decide and I decide yes we shall. So this is the only The Men They Couldn't Hang album that I have heard, so I don't know if any of their other albums are more suited to the political theme, but hey, this one works well and is generally a great album, so overall no worries are to be had. This album has a lovely combination of punk and folk music, creating some really upbeat and danceable tracks with some serious political messages (like "Ironmasters" a song about the treatment of modern day workers, that used to end with "and oh, that iron bastard, she still gets her way" until they were forced to change it. I wonder who this iron lady is they refer to?), as well as some slower, but equally top pieces of music. You can probably get this album cheap, and if you like it, check out one of their many other albums, I know I will! Eventually. Also fuck Margaret Thatcher. Shit, Google recognises that name as a real word. Please change that, I want it to be underlined red to reinforce just how wrong that name is.

Papers, Please - Lucas Pope (Game) - Author: Chris

Final confession, I really wanted to not use Papers, Please for the game. Not because it's a bad game, quite the opposite, but because it's really obvious. If you ask any avid gamer for a political game, they would probably say this game. Oh well, I suppose it is with good reason. Paper, Please is a game made by Lucas Pope (who made the game we recommended way back in week 1, go check it out if you don't believe me), in which you play as an immigration officer for the fictional country of Arstotzka. You watch as person after person comes through your booth with their various pieces of entry forms, in which you then decide whether you let them into your country or not. Sounds boring right? Well, this rabbit hole falls much deeper my friend. This expertly incorporates a fascinating system known as "moral standards." How does that work? Is there some kind of moral meter you have to try and fill? Nope, the only thing effected by your choices is who gets into the country, the newspaper headlines, whether you feel like a dickhead or not, and whether your family lives or dies from no food or no heating. Why is this? Well if you let someone in who doesn't have proper ID, but claims they desperately need to enter, you get fined, same if you don't let someone in who has the proper papers, but will probably murder that last person you let in. For such a simple game, it has so many political points to make, and that's what makes this game so good. Oh, and the theme is bloody amazing. Glory to Arstotzka!

Well, I managed to get through this without bashing the current political system, so I suppose that is a good thing. After all, my job is to entertain and recommend, not to cause anger and hatred, or just generally force my views down peoples throats, because let's be honest, that's not the right way to do thing. Oh wait I made that one comment about fascism right at the start. Whoops. Oh well, I'm sure it'll be fine, no fascists read this blog, at least I don't think so. Hey, if you are a fascist and you read this blog, stop fucking doing that. Go away. Cheers.
-Chris

(Disclaimer: Chris' words are his own, and do not necessarily represent TGOI as a whole. It might, I mean I haven't really asked Darren. He might be a dirty fascist for all I know. I do have a good feeling he isn't though.)

Monday 8 December 2014

Announcing... Serial Filler! A New Product of TGOI.COM!

Darren and I often come up with ideas for new content, and one of our first (apart from, you know, the Weekly Recommendation) was a series known (quite cleverly we feel) as Serial Filler. "What is Serial Filler?" I assume you are asking. Well let me tell you right bloody now! We take a series we like and give an in depth analysis of each entry in that series. Unlike the Weekly Recommendation however, there is no set date for when we release new entries, so yeah, don't expect them on a regular basis. But who knows? Maybe we will release that extremely frequently? (Don't get your hopes up).

So yeah, expect one to be up very soon. I will be writing the first one solo, and it is about a series I am very passionate about. I just need to finish the bloody second one and I'll be good to go. See you soon amigos!

-Chris

Weekly Recommendation - Week #021 - The Future is Fun

You know what I love? How society's concept of the future changes through out the years. I mean, in the 1950's, we had all that flying saucer and tinfoil space suit nonsense (that quite frankly I adore), in the 60's and 70's, we had Star Wars and Star Trek (iconic as fuck), and now, we have this idea that the future will either be extremely gritty, or extremely simplified and smooth. To be honest, my perfect future vision is neon. Just neon everywhere. I really like neon. Anyway, today we recommend past and present people's own visions of what the future will be like. Hint: They are not necessarily nice visions of the future. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go stare at some neon signs in the rain and at night. Oh yes.

Bladerunner - Ridley Scott (Film) - Author: Darren (barely)

I probably shouldn't be recommending this, I've not seen it for some time. You know what? Fuck it. I'll do it anyway. Bladerunner is a top bit of 80's sci-fi and deals with a few fairly complex themes (I don't want to say too much as I'm lazy. Also, I want to say it about the book) such as 'what is real?' and 'if the fake stuff's good enough, does it matter?'. It deals with these questions well and still fitting to the sci-fi setting and sheer 80's feel. It really shows I've not seen this in a while, if at all, doesn't it? Well, that's why you look at what I have to say about the book because it may surprise you Bladerunner  is a relatively loose adaptation of a book. Y'know, the things that nerds read?

Papua New Guinea (Hybrid Remix) - The Future Sound of London (Music) - Author: Chris

The idea of futuristic music is very much up for interpretation, considering we are in the present, and will always be in the present. The only way we can possibly know what future music will sound like is by guessing. So for my guess, I went with the Hybrid Remix of Papua New Guinea by The Future Sound of London. Before you say anything, yes the fact that the band name has "The Future Sound" in it did swing my vote quite substantially.  The original version isn't bad, but I feel like this remix has a lot more going for it, especially in terms of futuristic music. Again, this is just my interpretation of future music, but I think this song really captures the feeling. I feel entranced by it, like I'm actually in some form of futuristic paradise, despite the song being set in, you know, 2001. But wait... 2001: A Space Odyssey is set in 2001, and that is futuristic! Could this be a sign? A sign that I am currently using filler? I think it might just be! Okay, to be brief, it is a good song, with a futuristic, sci-fi feeling. I reckon it's worth a listen, and considering this is the Weekly Recommendation, I think I've done my job.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Relic (Game) - Author: Chris

In the words of the false God Emperor, "They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear." In his infinite wisdom, he did forget to mention how stupidly overpowered they are, or how great they look in a variety of colours. Sorry, I got distracted thinking about the lore of one of my favourite sci-fi, nay, my favourite games of all time: Dawn Of War. It is a real time strategy game, based upon the lore of the tabletop game Warhammer 40,000, and quite frankly, it is phenomenal. It perfectly captures the violence and scale of the Warhammer universe, as being a generally fun game for those who know nothing of it's lore. In the base game, you can play as one of four races; Space Marines, Chaos, The Eldar, and ME ORK BOYZ. YOU 'ERD ME, WE'Z GONNA STOMP DEM HUMIEZ WHO THINKZ THEY'Z TUFFER DEN US! Sorry, got distracted by my favourite race in the game. There also three expansions for the game, all of which I highly recommend: Winter Assault, Dark Crusade, and Soulstorm. Listen to those titles. Aren't they they the coolest thing's you've ever heard. Each adds two new races (apart from Winter Assault, which added one) as well as new unit types for pre-existing races and new maps and campaigns. Love Warhammer 40,000?  You'll love this! Never really heard of it? You'll love this! Despise Warhammer for being nerdy? Fuck off you prick, no one wants that kind of judgemental shit in their lives. IF SOMEONE IS PASSIONATE ABOUT SOMETHING NERDY LEAVE THEM ALONE SHITHEAD! Sorry about that, had to get that off my chest. It's a fun game, with a still active fan-base, that actually seem relatively friendly for new players (at least from my experience.) Oh, and let me know if you get the game, I'd love to play it with you lot. Did I forget anything? Let me see... oh yeah! ORKS ORKS ORKS ORKS ORKS ORKS ORKS ORKS!

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? - Phillip K Dick (Bonus Book) - Author: Darren

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is one of my favourite books. It deals with a myriad of themes such as reality and our perception of it as well as what classifies as life. The main character is a bounty hunter who hunts androids (much like in the film) who lives the lie of owning a mechanical sheep in a world where owning real animals shows status. He also has a common appliance that can change your mood which his wife  goes a bit mental with and he uses reluctantly. Emotion and the replication of emotion are fairly big themes in the book, as is religion. It's really fucking good. Go read it.

What did you expect from a return to normalcy? Full disclosure: I will be back fully in due time. In the meantime, expect pilots. YOU ARE WELCOME.

PS or whatever: I really undersold the book. It's great. Personally in my top three in the genre.

Weekly Recommendation - Week #020 - Down With The Sickness

Ahh illness, the bane of everyone's enjoyment. To avoid confusion, this week's recommendation is being done by Max (yours truly) and Dasha. Who are those fools? It doesn't matter really, but all you need to know is that this is being done as Chris and Darren have fallen victims to illness. Rest in peace my sweet cherubs. Now, illness is quite a common theme in the things that we entertain ourselves with. It can be a simple plot device that drives a story forward, or something that everything in said plot is based around. Either way (in terms of home entertainment, illness in real life is fucking awful), it can create something pretty darn interesting and enjoyable, just like in the three things that myself and Dasha are recommending to you this week. Take note fools, this shit is good.

Little Miss Sunshine- Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris (Film) - Author: Dasha

You may be thinking to yourself “Little Miss Sunshine doesn’t sound like a film about any type of sickness. It sounds wonderful!” And to that I reply “shut up and stop jumping to conclusions.” This film certainly isn’t anything to do with sunshine and rainbows as the title may suggest. While it could be argued that this film doesn’t have too much to do with physical sickness, it has a lot to do with mental sickness and family dysfunctions. While this all sounds pretty depressing (and it kind of is), the film is still hilarious, with it being a black comedy and all, and even after all the chaotic events that occur throughout, you still feel pretty happy inside after it’s over. The film is based around a little girl named Olive who wants to be the next “Little Miss Sunshine” in a beauty contest that is taking place in California, but due to economic problems and her family being, well, slightly insane, it looks like her chances of her entering the contest are pretty slim. However, eventually the family decide that they should go, and they all cram into an old VW van and set out on a long, stressful road trip to California. Olive’s Dad, Richard, the asshole of the film, is a major control freak who constantly tries to keep the family in check, and always fails. Grandad Edwin (hands down the best character) is an aggressive, cocaine-addicted mess who was kicked out of his retirement home due to bad behaviour and general tom foolery. Brother Dwayne, refuses to speak and insists that he hates everyone. Uncle Frank is recovering from a suicidal attempt after being heartbroken and abandoned by his partner. Well, I think the rest of the film is pretty self-explanatory, a bunch of crazy family members on a painfully long road trip in a van that hardly works. Yeah, shit hits the fan. Pretty hard too. Its witty humour mixed with its dark and touchy themes makes an absolutely fantastic black comedy that I would recommend to all. All that are above 15 anyway. That’s the certificate I’m afraid.

Back To Black- Amy Winehouse (Music) - Author: Dasha

There must be a reason why this album reached number 20 on the Rolling Stone list of “Top 100 songs from the 2000’s”, and that reason is because this album is absolutely phenomenal. It’s a beautiful jazz and soul influenced album about the singer’s struggle with drugs, drinking, and intense heartbreak. Having listened to this album after her tragic death back in 2011 due to a drug overdose, lyrics such as “I don’t ever want to drink again, I just need a friend” seem really haunting because you can really sense the overwhelming desperation that she felt, and it shows how badly that she was affected because of her drinking problem and drug use. Even the fact that the first song on the album is called “Rehab” and the last is called “Addiction” really shows that Amy Winehouse had some serious issues, and you can really tell that her raw emotions were poured into this album. Even with all of the underlying darkness and depression that this album has, you can’t help but dance along to it, because it’s just so damn jazzy. I’m pretty sure everyone has probably heard “Rehab”, since it’s been overplayed to death, but you can’t help but be interested by how upbeat it is and how sharply it contrasts with her desperate cries for help in the lyrics, and even though a lot of artists write about this kind of struggle, you have to admire how extremely open she is about her problems. If you haven’t already, go and listen to this album, you won’t be disappointed. Unless you are, then I’m very sorry. (Not really).

The Last of Us – Naughty Dog (Game) - Author: Max

When we hear about illness in games, it is mostly related to an infection or virus that turns people into zombies. Now, The Last of Us is a game about a fungal infection that turns its hosts into cannibalistic monsters, but it is its focus on the characters that makes this game so good. I won't say too much about the story, but you play as a smuggler named Joel as you trek across a post apocalyptic US with a girl named Ellie and do everything you can to stay alive. That is the basic gist of it, but there is not only so much more to the in-game world as a whole, but there is so much more to the characters than any other game with a similar story. As the game progresses, you can see the relationship between Joel and Ellie evolve; their continuous contextual conversations (accidental alliteration... WHOOPS) drive the story along and change how you feel about each of the two characters. The simple fact that this game is set 20 years after the outbreak just makes it stand out further. You can truly see how humanity has disintegrated over the years and you are constantly reminded of the lack of hope of the people. Also, the graphics are stunning. Naughty Dog really took the PS3 and scraped out all of its potential until there was nothing left. While you are journeying through desolate settings, murdering the infected and scraping through intense and heart pounding situations while simultaneously being massively depressed by the situation as a whole, you will always stop to just look at how beautiful the scenery is, admiring Naughty Dog for how much effort they put into this masterpiece. Now, I can only write so much about this (as Chris will shout at me for writing too much), but The Last of Us is a work of genius, and there is so much good shit that I haven't covered. From just looking back at each of their games, it is clear that Naughty Dog has just vastly improved as developers. It is their constant innovation and production of fantastic stories in their games that makes them one of my favourite game developers of all time (seriously, Jak II has one of my most favourite story lines in a video game ever). I never actually finished The Last of Us, but I can't wait to smash through the remastered version once I get my PS4 for Christmas, SONNNNNNN.

So there you have it. Illness. What a harsh mistress it is. Now hopefully Chris and Darren will have recovered by next week so they can PULL THEMSELVES TOGETHER AND WRITE ON THEIR FUCKING BLOG. But yeah, myself and Dasha thank you for reading all of this sick and nasty fun (assuming you did, which you better have) and bid you farewell, the recommendations should be back to normal next Sunday. Oh and also don't get ill....
Don't.
I'm watching you.
BYE!

Weekly Recommendation - Week #019 - Internal Recommendations

Let's open with a fun fact, as my professor taught me at the Villainous Torture Room Monologue Academy. Sometimes, Darren and I actually recommend stuff... (wait for it) TO EACH OTHER! It's rather shocking I know. So lets keep this intro short (and sweet, because I really liked that Academy joke), here are some of our favourites that we have recommended to each other. Also, I think Darren is feeling a bit under the weather, so yeah, forgive him if he a) doesn't write as well as normal or b) dies mid recommendation.

Starship Troopers - Paul Verhoeven (Film) - Author: Darren (Quite possibly deceased.)

Way back in the 90's, when unisex showers were the future, a film was released. You know the title by now and, surprisingly, so do I. Isn't that bizzare? No. Shut up. Starship Troopers is distinctly two halves. The first, high-school drama. The second, space war. While I say they're distinct, the progression is natural and doesn't feel forced. The entire story feels like it would be tailor made for a video game but plays out at a fairly decent pace. The humour was well timed and didn't fall flat. Go watch it please so I can stop typing. Please, I am immensely sick, just like all of my skill. HA HA Ha Ha hahahahahahahah...

The First Vietnamese War - The Black Angels (Music) - Author: Chris

I think there is actually archived stream footage of Darren recommending this to me, which is sort of exciting I guess. Anyway, let's get on with the show. It's an American psychedelic sort of song, you know, the kind that you would often associate with (surprise surprise) The Vietnam War, and that time period generally, although they didn't make it during that time period, so I suppose that is cheating a bit in someone's book. What was I saying? Oh yeah, music. It's a really nice song, and sound pretty authentic to the time period, so give it a listen, relax, and be glad humanity has gotten over having wars with each other. Oh wait.

Mass Effect 2 - BioWare (Game) - Author: Chris

I always had some interest in the Mass Effect series, but I never really pushed myself to try and acquire and play them. I then discovered that Darren was a massive fan of BioWare and their games, which led to him completely and utterly recommending the shit out of them to me. I bought 3, then bought 2, then decided I would just start from 2. I am so glad that I did. The universe is amazing, the soundtrack is phenomenal, the level of detail put into every bit of back-story is astonishing, and, I suppose I should mention this as it is a game, it plays really well too. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy 3, but for overall quality, 2 is an absolute master-class in sequels and games in general. I didn't have trouble skipping 1, but I did notice a few of the characters judging me for things I "did" in the first game, so maybe I should have started from one, who knows? All I know is that 2 is a great game. I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favourite overused joke in TGOI.

Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to mourn the loss of Darren. He will be missed greatly. Goodnight, sweet prince?

Weekly Recommendation - Week #018 - Remakes

Do you remember The Thing remake? I do, because I was unbelievably hyped for it. If asked why, I would simply with respond with "It's The Thing!" Despite my infinite wisdom, I didn't really want to accept that this was not The Thing. Because The Thing was already The Thing, this was a different The Thing. Essentially, what I'm trying to say is this; sometimes when someone sees something they like, they remake it. A lot of the time it is nowhere near as good as the original, but sometimes they do get close, in fact, in rare instances, they are a lot better. To prove this point, we have gotten an outsider to write part of today's recommendation, Max of Llama Drool fame. Let's see how he does shall we?  Also no matter what you think, no remake can be as good as the original The Thing. JOHN CARPENTER IS A MASTERMIND YOU HEAR ME?!?!

Sherlock - BBC (Series) - Author: Darren

As you may know, the rights to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's works are in the public domain. This has led to numerous adaptions from page to film. One notable adaption is BBC's Sherlock.
Often under-looked, Sherlock is a modern re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes. Staring some very little known actors such as Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch, this somewhat unknown series manages to enthrall audiences for each of the three weeks a year that it's broadcast. I'm unsure how it is, exactly, that this show barely gets any viewers, maybe it's the piss poor time slot, maybe it's lack of brand recognition. All I know is that's it's something you should all watch (as I seriously doubt any of you are even aware of it's existence).

99 Problems - Hugo (Music) - Author: Chris

If you're having song problems, I feel bad for you son, I've got 99 problems and it's a great piece of music. It's a great little song, clearly a re-imagining of Jay-Z's (what kind of name is that?) rap melody of the same name. Don't get me wrong, I like rap as much as the next white guy, but I much prefer the Hugo cover. It has so much more flavour to it. It is done in a sort of jazzy, country style (well, it's officially known as bluegrass, a sub-genre of country, but you know), and it really stands out on it's own as a superb song. Like you wouldn't even associate it with the original version, I know I don't at least. Normally I would write a lot more, but considering it is only the one song, and it's really hard to explain why I like this song so much, I feel satisfied with the idea of you listening to it and creating your own judgement. It's country, it's jazz, it's a heck of a lot of fun, and it will get everyone up and jiving to it's funky beats. Groovy.

Black Mesa – Crowbar Collective (Game) – Author: Max

You may be thinking to yourself right now, “Who is this asshole?” That isn't too relevant at this time, all that you need to know is that every word I have to say is important. Just kidding! (Or am I?) Okay, let's delve right into this... Black Mesa is a third party remake of Half-Life, Valve Corporation's critically acclaimed debut title on Valve's Source engine, in which you play as Gordon Freeman, a scientist working at the Black Mesa Research Facility. When things go tits up and a wormhole opens up to an alien dimension, you have to escape the facility, search for survivors, and stop the alien invasion before the world is fucked.

For those of you who enjoyed the Half-Life games (presumably anyone who has played them), you will like this game. It is free to play so you don't have to worry about throwing away any of that hard earned cash, and it is definitely not a let down. Honestly, the graphical upgrade is phenomenal! If you have seen the original game, you will know what I am talking about. It runs well and I didn't encounter any hiccups throughout my numerous playthroughs. Once shit goes down at the start of the game, you will be hooked. It becomes dark, tense and even pretty scary. Did you enjoy Ravenholm from Half-Life 2? Well, have fun!

Sadly, the end of the original game is not featured in this release, but if you have ever wanted to play the first Half-Life game or play it again with upgraded graphics, settings and gameplay, or even just fuck everything up for everyone in an excellent first person shooter, you need to play this game. It really is the definitive version of one of Valve's greatest titles.

Well, you've read that (hopefully), don't forget to tell us what you think on the Facebook post.

Weekly Recommendation - Week #017 - The Lemons Formerly Known As Life's

Life is shit. Really shit. The world is full of so many problems and issues that can turn a person into a depressed sack of shit if dwelled upon for too long. There are good parts of life don't get me wrong, and while I have had a very finite number issues with things in the past, I can safely say that so many people have had it so much worse, and that I am extremely lucky with how my life has been so far. Despite the hardships that people face, some use their poor life experiences to create something more positive, to create art, and more often than not this stuff can be amazing. Just think; how many songs are about the cruelty of life? I can guarantee it's a lot. So for this week's recommendation, we are showing you some pieces of media that really reflect on that side of life. Buckle up, it might get bumpy.

BoJack Horseman - Netflix Original (Series) - Author: Darren

BoJack Horseman is about a man, a horse actually, who was the star of a famous 90's sitcom but now... well, now he's a middle aged man-horse trying to hold on to the stardom of his past.Don't get me wrong (please, that'd be embarrassing for both of us), this is a comedy to, a funny one at that. However, this series makes really makes you feel emotions (whatever they are) and invest in the character of BoJack. It's not all about the titular character though, there's a strong supporting cast of characters. For example, Todd, voiced by Need For Speed star, Aaron Paul, is a lovable stoner who slept on BoJack's house after a party one night and hasn't left in five years. Other characters include the well fleshed out female character Diane Nguyen and somewhat moronic 'rival' Mr Peanut-butter (a Golden Retriever).
Personally, I real enjoyed both the comedy and the overall story. It's satisfying in a morbid kind of way but still makes you feel sympathy for arseholes like BoJack (something that I loved about Ajax in The Warriors).

Sign o' the Times - Prince (Music) Author: Chris

Selecting a song was hard because, as I said in the intro, there are a hell of a lot of songs that feature the cruelty of life. Short-listed songs included Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Show Must Go On by Queen, which have really interesting lyrics when you listen to and analyse them (or just look up the meanings on the internet, I mean you may as well get something useful from it for a change), but in terms of sheer power and meaning, nothing quite comes close to Sign o' the Times (the song) by Prince. When you hear this song's beat, you can feel how deep and powerful, as well as unbelievably funky,  it's going to be, but then you listen to the lyrics and, wow oh wow, this song covers all of life's diabolical bases. It's about AIDS, gang violence, natural disasters, poverty, drug abuse, the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, and if that isn't enough, you even get an impending nuclear holocaust chucked right in there. This song just goes to show just how shit life is, while at the same showing just how amazing it can be, through it's incredible beat. This song is a masterpiece.

Always Sometimes Monsters - Vagabond Dog (Game) - Author: Darren

Always Sometimes Monsters is a bit of a misleading title. They're aren't monsters, well, not unless you count people, in which case you're in luck. The game deals with a lot of themes and issues (which I will list for your reading pleasure):

  • Sexism
  • Racism
  • Relationships
  • Greed
  • Poverty
  • Homophobia
  • Politics
  • Addiction/Drug Abuse
  • Gambling
  • Theft
  • Choice
  • Consequences

These are by no means the only themes, they're just the notable ones. They're really emphasised in the story with every choice you make. Choices that you make can be good or bad, but not in a black and white sense. For example, in one situation  got my friend and his girlfriend into rehab for their heroin addiction while in another situation, I orphaned a family in order to get one step closer to stopping my ex's wedding. It's never really presented as typically good or evil, you have a goal and how you achieve it is up to you. It's your morals that help you make the distinction. That and the bit near the end where the game asks you if you feel remorse for any of the decisions that you make.
Gameplay wise, this game is pretty decent. It was made in RPG Maker so it plays like a traditional RPG mixed with a social sim (fear not, it's not about getting the cutest boy in school to fill you with his semen in the most intimate, romantic way possible). It can be a little frustrating backtracking and
generally faffing about but the story is engaging enough that it doesn't matter too much.
If your looking for a 'real human story' then this little indie surprise could be just what you're looking for.

There you have it. As always, comment if you liked it, didn't like it, think your opinion matters or want to express and racism/sexism/homophobia/transphobia or other disgusting behaviour, go ahead and comment . If you want to congratulate us, FUCK YOU. Comments on the Facebook post are OK, too. Have a satisfactory week.

Weekly Recommendation - Week #015 - Wrestling

Greetings, and welcome to an exciting WWE themed edition of WEEKLY RECOMMENDATIONS!

Scooby-Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery - Warner Bros/WWE Studios (Film) - Author: Chris
I must admit, when I went into this thing I had filled my mind with the idea that it was going to be shit. Surprisingly enough, I sort of enjoyed it in a bizarre way. It's Scooby-Doo for damn sure, the classic, ghost hunting fun you remember it being, but starring a random assortment of WWE Superstars. It takes place in WWE City (Oh yes, it's one of those kind of films), and has some of the strangest things ever. Ghost Bears? Check. John Cena being overpowered as hell? Check. Michael Cole being annoying as dicks? Extra check. If you like Scooby-Doo, WWE and can live with the idea of Mr McMahon essentially being a supreme ruler (WWE City has it's own law system, go figure) then you will get a kick out of this. I know I did.

Scooby-Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery - Warner Bros/WWE Studios (Film) - Author: Darren
I went into with low expectations. Surprisingly, they were met and exceeded. That doesn't make it the best but it's not bad. It's nice to hear the wrestlers do their own voice, especially Vince McMahon (owner of McMahon's Waffle House).
The plot focuses on the humans and dog as they try to solve the mystery of The Ghost Bear with the help of WWE Superstars such as John Cena and Triple H. It's surprisingly well done though. THis isn't very detailed, but hey, Scooby Doo and WWE, what more could you want? Except to live in WWE City.

WWE Anthology - Koch International (Music) - Author: Chris
Now, this is quite a thing of beauty this. I received this as a gift a silly number of years ago, and only rediscovered it recently. It is a 3 disk collection of entrance themes from the Federation Era, the Attitude Era, and the Now Era (which by Now means until 2002, it's kind of an old CD). Most of it is good, its got some classic themes for damn sure. It's hard to recommend this, if you like entrance themes, you will like this, that is essentially all I can say about it. Next question.

WWE Anthology - Koch International (Music) - Author: Darren
This anthology annoys me. I just can't stand that they missed a track, making a numerical error. Most of the entrance music is good and there's something for everyone. Details. Excitement. Opinions.

WWE 13 - THQ (Game) - Author: Chris
While I have had many wrestling games in the past, this is the one that got me properly back into wrestling, and more. This is the game in which the TGOI roster was born, permanently solidifying them in my brain for the longest time. It's just like the many games that have come before it, but with more of a focus on the Attitude Era, which is my favourite time in the WWE/WWF. It's quite good for the price, so I would get this one if you want to get involved in the wrestle games. Also it's THQ's last entry before they went under, so it can be a bit of a history lesson for you or something.

WWE 13 - THQ (Game) - Author: Darren
Ah. The game that spawned characters such as Richard Phist, Truth Boy, Gud 1 and Richard Phist. What can I say? It's got solid mechanics, most models look ok (not Edge) and the Attitude Era mode looks great. Overall, it's really fun. Creating characters and abominations is appealing. So is watching them fight for your amusement and, more importantly, the titles.

Well that's it, I hope you enjoy all this WWE goodness, just as we did and do. PLAY US OUT ZACK RYDER!
WEW WEW WEW! YOU KNOW IT!

Oh radio, tell me everything you know
I like to sing with the radio
I like to play it real loud
I like to drive with the top down
Rollin' like thunder, always drawing a crowd
Every babe's gonna want a piece of me, yeah

I stare into the mirror
I like the things I see

Oh radio, tell me everything you know
I will believe your every word, just tell me so

I see the look in their eyes
I see there's something in their lies, lies, lies,
oh lies, oh lies, in the lies

I like to sing with the radio
I like to play it real loud
I like to drive with the top down
Rollin' like thunder, always drawing a crowd
Every babe's gonna want a piece of me, yeah

I stare into the mirror
I like the things I see

Oh radio, tell me everything you know
I will believe your every word, just tell me so

I see the look in their eyes
I see there's something in their lies, lies, lies,
oh lies, oh lies, in the lies

Weekly Recommendation - Week #014 - Fan Made Media

Welcome back/forward, we're not here to judge, we support all orientations (except diagonal, you lot can fuck right off). This weeks theme, aside from discrimination against the diagonally inclined, is fanmade stuff. I much prefer fanmade stuff than synthetic products anyway.

Red Sand - Caleb Evans & UAT Digital Video (Film) - Author: Darren

Red Sand is a Mass Effect fanmade (short) film focused on a character from the books, John Grissom. I won't spoil his claim to fame fame as it's the plot of the film. I will, however, mention that he's played by MARK MEER, the voice of BroShep and a tonne of aliens.
The reason I'm recommending this is because I'm a huge Mass Effect nerd. Well, that's one reason. The film itself is very well made considering the budget and the experience of those involved. Admittedly, some of it looks a bit cheesy, but it's more than forgivable. I'm not entirely sure if non Mass Effect fans will get as much out of it but hopefully it gives you a taste (the story is largely canonical) that leaves you wanting more. [http://redsand.uat.edu/]

Just for reference, here's what it narrowly beat:
Forever Blue (Breaking Bad) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S31P1PZzkm0]
When Winter Comes (Game of Thrones) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDt3jeXGfDU]
Halfman's Song (Game of Thrones) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOQsYk8cbnE]
Cries of A Dead World (Wasteland 2) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HloF7F4dPNo&list=UUSfoxYTlCPFfglckBLrjpsA]
A Dog's Life (The Wolf Among Us) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfvYHUWuq9k]

I feel bad for using so many good songs in one recommendation. Although I can use them again if the theme permits. In order to deal with the guilt, I'm going to link to this [http://miracleofsound.bandcamp.com/] where you can buy some truly fantastic music.*

The Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures - FreakZone (Game) - Author: Chris

Are you aware of that feeling when you hate a game so much because it's so fucking hard, yet at the same time absolutely adore it for that exact same reason? (Looking at you, Hotline Miami.) Well, if you adore getting the shit kicked out of you, then I've got the game for you. This game pays homage to some of the most iconic NES games, as well as playing like them, and looking like them (this game is quite a looker in my opinion.) It's a side scroller, with three distinct features: A) It's themed around the world of Angry Video Game Nerd (which you should all check out by the way,) B) It's got a glorious soundtrack (Just like Hotline Miami,) and C) IT'S REALLY FUCKING HARD (JUST LIKE FUCKING HOTLINE MIAMI!) It's not unfair hard, the rules of how things work are very well presented, so if you mess up, it's your fault, not the game's (but you are probably gonna call bullshit nine times out of ten anyway.) If you are a fan of AVGN, you probably already know about this game, if you aren't, you will still get a massive, potentially nostalgic kick out of this, simply due to the NES themes. Oh and the language in this game is atrocious, something which I absolutely adore.

As you can see, fans can be quite passionate, and can sometimes create some absolutely top quality content for their favourite things. I mean, have you seen some of the stuff we've got already? We are ultra lucky! So in an unusual turn of events, I'm gonna end this by not being a dick to you all, and instead be the opposite. (Sorry if that is all you come here for, you saucy beast.) Thank you all a bunch for, after fourteen weeks, still reading our stupid shit, it means the world to us! Have a good week and see you next Sunday, you superb person you!

*I was going to do it anyway, so the whole 'guilt' thing is bollocks.

Weekly Recommendation - Week #013 - Successful Hype

Do you often get disappointed because you're dumb? Have you ever boarded the hype train and missed your stop? We have. That's why, for this week, we've chose to cover stuff where the hype paid off. Watch as I cop out of legitimate work and Chris does way more than me.

The Raid 2 - Gareth Evans (Movie) - Author: Chris
My viewing of the original Raid film was somewhat of an accident I must admit, I accidentally clicked it on Netflix and thought "I remember seeing a poster for this somewhere, I wonder how it is?" It was one of the happiest accidents that has ever happened to me, as I utterly fell in love with it. Upon discovery that a sequel was due out, I then started completely over-hyping how amazing it would be in my head (hey, the title wasn't that specific). Finally, I discovered that FACT in Liverpool (lordy, what a place) was showing it, so I dragged a couple of friends to the empty screening. They don't forgive me for doing it, and I honestly don't care, it was so much better than I ever could have dreamed. The setting was amazing, the cast were superb, the violence was horrendously fab, and those fight scenes. No horror film could ever heighten my stress levels as much as the fight scenes in that film did, I'm not even being dramatic, they are the most tense scenes possibly in existance! Watch the first film for context and enjoyment, then watch the second one and completely devastate your sweat glands.

Heartbreak - Age of Consent (Music) - Author: Darren

I don't do this often, but  I'm going to let the song speak for itself. It's that good. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lpGtoVfCsU]

Max Payne 3 - Rockstar Games (Games) - Author: Chris

Let it be known (I feel like I have used that intro before) that Darren and myself adore Rockstar Games and everything they create. Now, this game had a quite a lot of trailers, all of which I watched extensively, absorbing as many small details before the game came out.

Deflate your hype balloons (sorry Yahtzee), because this ride has ended. Just kidding, the hype train never stops on this site! Except for when it does. Sorry about that.

Weekly Recommendation - Week #012 - The Nostalgic Nineties

WEW WEW WEW! I'm a ghost!

Well that was fucking weird. So, the nineties. The decade I was born in. The decade in which a lot of my nostalgic interests come from, and possibly a lot of your's, dear viewer. But let's be honest. The nineties was overrated. We love it for nostalgic reasons, but in reality, it wasn't that good. What's even worse is how people use the reasoning that because they are a (oh god I'm going to vomit) "nineties kid" (UUUUUAAARGGGHHHH!) they are somehow immediately better than any other person. Shut the fuck up. Here are some actual good things from the nineties.

Starship Troopers - Paul Verhoeven (Film) - Author: Chris

I always felt I was a bit of a rule follower back then. I obeyed laws, I never stepped out of line, and I never watched something I was too young to view. So I actually only watched Starship Troopers about a year ago. Holy shit this film is insane. It's amusing and ultra-violent, and even quite blatantly pokes fun at the whole "military propaganda" thing, which I think is top notch. Would you like to know more? It's a silly film, about blowing up giant space bugs and, more often then not, humans getting eviscerated by said alien space bugs. It is a joy to watch, and I would recommend it to anybody who has a stomach for such violence, or isn't afraid of massive, man eating bugs. Even if you are afraid, this movie may cure that fear. I'm guessing not though.

Gorgeous George - Edwyn Collins (Music) - Author: Chris

Time for more honesty. The popular music of the nineties was atrocious. It was hard looking for something worth while, not because there wasn't much of it, but because my mind was clouded with shit. However, I eventually found something quite spectacular, something that I wouldn't call nostalgic (hey, I can do what I want, it's not like I called this... oh wait), but it is absolutely superb. I've always been a fan of Edwyn Collins, both of his solo stuff and his Orange Juice stuff (which is a fantastic band that I recommend that everyone checks out), but this album is one of his greatest, as it has a good combination of calm stuff and more upbeat stuff, some really clever lyrics, and contains one of my favourite songs, not just by Edwyn, but by anyone, "A Girl Like You." Holy shit that is an addictive song. Also, check out the documentary "Home Again." Edwyn has had some awful events happen in his life, and this thing is truly inspirational.

BONUS CONTENT: A Game of Thrones - George R.R. Martin (Book) - Author: Darren

Some people forget that Dragon Tits, I mean Game of Thrones, is based off of a book. Fewer know that it was first published in 1996. What I know is that it's a great book that's well worth the read. The writing is good, I'm sure you know the story and characters are by now. It offers so much history and context, however, that the show can barely compete. For example, in the show, Robert just shows up as an old, fat bastard. In the book, before we even meet
him we hear how fierce a warrior he was and what a great leader he was. That's when we're introduced to him, the old, fat bastard and it's has so much more impact than the show could ever have.
If you haven't seen the show or even if you have, give it a go.

That's it. Piss off.

TGOI Presents: The Woods - A Short Film

Hi everyone, it's Chris, you know, one of the guys who does a lot of the shit on this site. Well did you know I also occasionally make videos? Well I do, and I recently directed and edited my first, I suppose you can call it "real", film, called The Woods.

Now you may be asking, "Why would you advertise this shit on this website?" Well, because it stars the other fucker who runs this site, Darren. So I suppose you could call it a TGOI Film. Hey, now there's a thought...

Please leave feedback either here, on the Facebook page, or on the YouTube video itself. I really want to know what you all think.

Thanks a bunch to everyone who helped out, and to you, you sexy supporter type you!
See you tomorrow,
-Chris
