Weekly Recommendation - Week #014 - Fan Made Media

Welcome back/forward, we're not here to judge, we support all orientations (except diagonal, you lot can fuck right off). This weeks theme, aside from discrimination against the diagonally inclined, is fanmade stuff. I much prefer fanmade stuff than synthetic products anyway.

Red Sand - Caleb Evans & UAT Digital Video (Film) - Author: Darren

Red Sand is a Mass Effect fanmade (short) film focused on a character from the books, John Grissom. I won't spoil his claim to fame fame as it's the plot of the film. I will, however, mention that he's played by MARK MEER, the voice of BroShep and a tonne of aliens.
The reason I'm recommending this is because I'm a huge Mass Effect nerd. Well, that's one reason. The film itself is very well made considering the budget and the experience of those involved. Admittedly, some of it looks a bit cheesy, but it's more than forgivable. I'm not entirely sure if non Mass Effect fans will get as much out of it but hopefully it gives you a taste (the story is largely canonical) that leaves you wanting more. [http://redsand.uat.edu/]

Normandy - Miracle Of Sound (Music) - Author: Darren

I think this is the second time now that I've recommended Miracle of Sound, but only because other people need to have a chance or something. This song (along with those below) is one one of my favourites, again, probably because it's Mass Effect related. It still doesn't mean the quality isn't exceptionally high. As someone who produces music as a hobby, I have to admit that this is where I aspire to be skill wise. Actually, come to think of it, better wouldn't be bad (harder, absolutely). As a person who has ears, I can also say that this is an amazing song that resonates with me on an emotional level, maybe it's the investment with Mass Effect, maybe it isn't. His music is still great though and well worth a listen, he does more than just Mass Effect, but never less than excellent. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfelfyV8LwA]

Just for reference, here's what it narrowly beat:
Forever Blue (Breaking Bad) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S31P1PZzkm0]
When Winter Comes (Game of Thrones) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDt3jeXGfDU]
Halfman's Song (Game of Thrones) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOQsYk8cbnE]
Cries of A Dead World (Wasteland 2) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HloF7F4dPNo&list=UUSfoxYTlCPFfglckBLrjpsA]
A Dog's Life (The Wolf Among Us) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfvYHUWuq9k]

I feel bad for using so many good songs in one recommendation. Although I can use them again if the theme permits. In order to deal with the guilt, I'm going to link to this [http://miracleofsound.bandcamp.com/] where you can buy some truly fantastic music.*

The Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures - FreakZone (Game) - Author: Chris

Are you aware of that feeling when you hate a game so much because it's so fucking hard, yet at the same time absolutely adore it for that exact same reason? (Looking at you, Hotline Miami.) Well, if you adore getting the shit kicked out of you, then I've got the game for you. This game pays homage to some of the most iconic NES games, as well as playing like them, and looking like them (this game is quite a looker in my opinion.) It's a side scroller, with three distinct features: A) It's themed around the world of Angry Video Game Nerd (which you should all check out by the way,) B) It's got a glorious soundtrack (Just like Hotline Miami,) and C) IT'S REALLY FUCKING HARD (JUST LIKE FUCKING HOTLINE MIAMI!) It's not unfair hard, the rules of how things work are very well presented, so if you mess up, it's your fault, not the game's (but you are probably gonna call bullshit nine times out of ten anyway.) If you are a fan of AVGN, you probably already know about this game, if you aren't, you will still get a massive, potentially nostalgic kick out of this, simply due to the NES themes. Oh and the language in this game is atrocious, something which I absolutely adore.

As you can see, fans can be quite passionate, and can sometimes create some absolutely top quality content for their favourite things. I mean, have you seen some of the stuff we've got already? We are ultra lucky! So in an unusual turn of events, I'm gonna end this by not being a dick to you all, and instead be the opposite. (Sorry if that is all you come here for, you saucy beast.) Thank you all a bunch for, after fourteen weeks, still reading our stupid shit, it means the world to us! Have a good week and see you next Sunday, you superb person you!

*I was going to do it anyway, so the whole 'guilt' thing is bollocks.
